The 34th Annual Breeder’s World Cup Championship will be held at the Del Mar Racetrack for the first time ever on November 3rd through November 4th! The Breeder’s Cup is an annual series for Grade 1 Thoroughbred horses that takes place in a different city each year. This event is the equivalence to the Olympics and is very competitive to obtain a spot in the races. This is a prestigious event where people from all over the world come to see these championship races and truly find out what horse is the best of the best. The Breeder’s Cup will feature 13 races with over $28 million in prize money and awards.
The Breeder’s Cup will have festivities all week long starting October 28th leading up to the races. The festivities will range from fun runs to tastings to live music. There will be six events at the Barn at the Beach. The Barn at the Beach is a custom 7,000 square foot tent that will host many of the Breeder’s Cup pre-events such as cocktail hours and tastings that is located next to Powerhouse Park. The Barn at the Beach will be televising all races and will be open to the public to enjoy delicious food and cocktails.
On November 1st, there will be a Bluegrass Concert and Bourbon Tasting. This free event will have great live bluegrass music with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
There will be two events taking place on November 2nd. The first event is A Taste of the World which is an international culinary event featuring over 15 chefs from around the world. The cuisine will be paired with world renowned wines, specialty cocktails, and a collection of beer. This event is exclusively for the trainers, jockeys, and owners.
On November 2nd from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., there will be a premium tasting event showcasing some of North County San Diego’s best restaurants. A few of the restaurants include Del Mar’s very own: Prepkitchen, Kitchen 1540, and Jake’s. This tasting will also include hand-crafted specialty cocktails and will feature Viewpoint Brewing Co. on tap. There will be live music at this event provided by Angie Keilhauer Band and Morgan Leigh Band and art showcased by San Diego’s renowned artist Aaron Chang. This event is going to be a truly unique experience. Overall, this event will be a great night for the community to come together and show the attendees what Del Mar is all about. On November 3rd, there will be a charity event benefiting Thoroughbred Charities of America. This event will feature a Q&A with the jockeys, owners, and trainers that are competing in the races.
On November 3rd, the Del Mar Racetrack will open its gates at 9 a.m. There are four races on Friday and the first race will start 11:25 a.m. On November 4th, there will be 9 races and gates will open at 8 a.m. with the first race starting at 10:10 a.m. The final race starts at 5:25 p.m. which is a $6 million race. Overall, these races will be highly competitive and an enjoyable experience to attend.
